the twinkle in my eye

Filed under: our house, sick chicken, what she does

the twinkle has recovered from her illness, thank goodness. she was a seriously sick chicken for a while there and it was all very sad and exhausting. our spirited child has returned. “spirited” seems to be a euphemism for “noisy” and it has been used to describe the twinkle.

one thing that she brought with her to the other side of the illness is the snuggling thing. you may remember a couple of weeks ago how thrilled i was when she cuddled me. well now she’s snuggling everything soft in sight. her favourite is her pink blanky, followed closely by the cat. other snuggling partners include her small hot pink teddy, the feathery cat toy, the bricks in the front path, and of course her mothers. this morning the twinkle and i ventured into the big bedroom where om was finishing her sleep-in. the twinkle was so happy to see her om that she squealed and did speed crawling across the bed and lay over k, giving her a snuggle. then she whacked patted special k’s head repeatedly, affectionately. i can honestly say (because i’ve given this a lot of thought today) that this was my happiest parenting moment ever. it was so joyful to be together, the three of us, all smiling and cuddling. then the twinkle climbed over k’s face and stood up holding the bed head and bounced with delight. it was all very head-explosion cute until she went from hero to zero in twenty seconds and had to be put back in her own bed for a sleep.

snuggling:

so i’ve learned that the snuggling is a developmental stage. another developmental stage is the light-pointing stage. i didn’t know about this. i mean, i have know a child or two who has pointed at lights but thought nothing of it. but the other day someone asked me if the twinkle was pointing at lights yet. (actually, now that i think about it, it was the maternal child health nurse at our last appointment.) i wasn’t sure how to answer so i said no, but she does point to door knobs. but now we have reached the point where she points to lights and it turns out most kids do this. am i right or am i speaking nonsense?

here she is looking at a light, preparing to point:
i have seen the light

another developmental stage she is going through is stacking things inside each other. she has these stacking boxes and she can stack them all day. and if one doesn’t appear to fit in the next one she’ll ram it in there and will cry if it won’t go in. she’s determined. this skill is also useful for the russian dolls she likes to play with. she’s very good at putting them inside each other.

this weekend we had a garage sale to declutter our lives in preparation for our move to our new house.
bargainay!

my favourite customer was the muttering old man wearing a bike helmet. he purchased a 2008 calendar from dublin, a pseudo echo 7″ single and the reality tv handbook.

we made enough cash to go out and buy a new stereo today with a turntable and now i can play all my vinyl again. well, at least all the vinyl that wasn’t bought by bargain-hunters yesterday. today i’ve had the eurythmics on high rotation.

Love the Eurythmics and would have gladly bought the Twinkle for $10. :)

Mateo’s not doing the light pointing thing, but it made me laugh when you said she climbed over K’s face, held onto the bed head and bounced with delight. Mateo does that all the time!

Finn was very devoted to lights for quite a while. The Auslan signs for light and on and off would probably qualify as his first proper words/sentence.

jelly, my nephew LOVES lights. it is the highlight of his visit here. not the cats, not the mountain of toys or the un-childproofed room. its the $10 light fittings in the shape of a star. he points and just says.. ooooooohhhhh. aaahhhhhhh. clever 14 month old kid!!

Bed head bouncing is a favorite in our house as well!
I had no idea light pointing was a developmental thing!! Jackson’s been doing it for a long time. I just thought he liked them :-)
Both of mine have started snuggling objects too. It’s so cute!!
Why are you moving from that amazingly perfect bungalow??
