sorry about the brief post previously. i had a whole post built up in my head and then last night i heard a devastating story about a baby on australian story and i was so upset by it i just sobbed for an hour and everything flew out of my head. i’m not going to link to it or tell you about it because if you didn’t hear it you don’t need to hear it. (sometimes i think i can control these things – protect myself/others from horror – i’ve never seen the footage of people jumping from the burning twin towers because i’ve refused to.)
so the twinkle does say bbrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmm when she’s playing with cars or riding her bike. she sometimes says “ca!” for a toy car and she’s consistently saying “baw?” for ball because she loves to go out the back and play soccer/basketball with the toastmonster. special k is lots of fun and plays great games with the twinkle. that’s where she learned the bbrrrmmmmm sound. special k has also taught the twinkle to put coins in her pussycat money box. the money box makes a “magical” sound as the coin goes in. she has taken the plug out of the bottom so it is literally endless fun.
the twinkle is going from a two sleep kid to a one sleep kid. most days last week she only slept once, but some days she still needs two. right now i’m trying to get her to have a morning nap before we go to mothers group, but it’s not going well. i’m sure you can hear the howling from there where you are.
i’d better go.

I watched that terrible story too. I had seen it before and as Thomas is about as old as Chris I can remember when it all first happened I was completely horrified. Hearing it again didn’t make me any less sad or horrified. Gaye was watching the olympics with her folks and we de-briefed when she came to bed. These things are so much worse when you have a small one I think. There is something completely not graspable about it…
Comment by Clare August 12, 2008 @ 2:31 pmI started watching it because the telly was already on that channel. Mark didn’t want to see it so we turned it off. I remember the story from when it happened. I probably would have watched it if I’d been alone and then really wished I hadn’t.
Comment by nicky August 12, 2008 @ 3:41 pmI saw it too. It made me feel physically sick. How? Could? That Happen?
But the light was the amazing Grandmother who clearly gives the son the best chance he has…
“Ca” seems to be the universal word- it means “car”, “ta”, “bicycle”, “Let’s go outside”, “Let’s go somewhere in the car”.
Most of those are pretty clear, but I think Pat is more than a little confused that you have to say “automobile” when someone gives you something…
We’re back down in Melbourne town on the weekend, but mostly chockers with family stuff… but who knows?
Comment by jen August 12, 2008 @ 3:46 pmIf the story is about child abuse, I’m glad you didn’t share it. I can’t handle that crap!
yep, Teo does the car noises too and I love it.
Ugh. Sleep. Teo is teething right now which messes everything up!
Comment by Erin August 13, 2008 @ 2:45 pmthank you thank you thank you for not linking or throwing in a casual reference to some appalling thing. I’ve also cried for an hour over those type of stories in the past. There are some things that happen in this world you that just don’t want to know about, and probably can’t do much to change even if you are well informed.
